SDA cylinders are common compact cylinders in industrial pneumatic systems, featuring a compact structure, small installation space, and stable output force. They are widely used in scenarios such as manipulators, automation equipment, and hardware machinery. Their model naming follows a unified rule, and different models correspond to distinct functions and application scenarios.
The model of an SDA cylinder usually consists of series identifier, bore diameter, stroke, and additional feature identifiers. Taking the industry-universal Airtac-type SDA cylinder as an example, the complete model format and its meanings are as follows:
-
Basic model: SDA (representing the compact cylinder series)
-
Bore diameter: Common specifications are 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 80, and 100mm (the bore diameter determines the output thrust of the cylinder)
-
Stroke: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 50mm, etc. (stroke refers to the reciprocating movement distance of the piston)
-
Additional feature identifiers
-
S: With magnetic ring (can be used with magnetic switches to detect the position of the cylinder piston)
-
B: External thread (the piston rod has an external thread structure for convenient non-standard installation)
-
Internal thread (no identifier): The piston rod has internal thread by default
-
Double-acting type (no identifier): SDA cylinders are double-acting by default (i.e., extending and retracting with air supply)
Example model: SDA32×20-S-B refers to an SDA compact cylinder with a bore diameter of 32mm, a stroke of 20mm, a magnetic ring, and an external thread on the piston rod.
They can be classified into the following types from different dimensions:
-
Internal thread models: SDA20×10, SDA40×30-S (without the "B" identifier)
-
External thread models: SDA25×15-B, SDA50×25-S-B (with the "B" identifier)
-
Non-magnetic models: SDA32×20, SDA63×40-B
-
Magnetic models: SDA20×10-S, SDA80×50-S-B
-
Small bore diameter and short stroke: SDA20×5, SDA25×10 (suitable for micro automation equipment)
-
Large bore diameter and long stroke: SDA80×40, SDA100×50 (suitable for heavy-load pushing and clamping scenarios)
As a pneumatic actuator, it pushes the piston to achieve linear expansion and contraction through compressed air. It can complete actions such as workpiece pushing, fixture clamping, material sorting, and manipulator grabbing, and is one of the core power components of automated production lines.
Compared with standard cylinders, SDA compact cylinders have smaller axial/radial dimensions and can be installed in narrow spaces, such as the end effector of small manipulators, the limit mechanism of precision instruments, and the positioning device of electronic equipment assembly lines.
SDA cylinders with magnetic rings (models with "S") can be used with magnetic switches to real-time detect the extended/retracted in-place status of the piston, realizing precise coordinated control of the automation system and avoiding equipment misoperation.
External thread models (with "B") can be directly thread-connected to non-standard fixtures and adapters without additional flanges or brackets, simplifying the installation structure and reducing equipment transformation costs.
